Principal Functions
UK National Geological Archive for the UK Continental Shelf, Slope and Rockall Continental Margin.

Subsidiary Functions
Provision of interpreted geology through a comprehensive suite of maps and reports.

General Details
Computerised database together with record, sample and core archives derived from systematic regional geological mapping comprising: (i) 1:250,000 maps presenting Aeromagnetic and gravity anomalies, Solid Geology, Quaternary Geology and Seabed Sediments (340 sheets in total). (ii) Suite of summary maps at 1:1,000,000 scale. (iii) Suite of 10 regional geological reports covering the UK Continental Shelf and Slope.

Specification
Interpretation based on offshore survey acquisition undertaken from 1966–90 and comprising in excess of 230,000 line kilometres of multi-instrument geophysical traverses; more than 30,000 sample/core stations; and some 700 bore holes.

Special Features
The data and interpretations are complimented by a team of geologists, database and laboratory personnel, and an experienced engineering/operations capability.

Future Plans
Extension of the survey of the UK Continental Shelf and Slope across the UK domain extending west across the Rockall Trough and Plateau to the Icelandic Basin and to incorporate the UK area north of 620N.

Availability
The facility is available to other bodies in both the private and public sector. There are no restrictions on the type of body that can apply to use the facility. There is no specific advance notice required when requesting time on the facility, but National offshore geological archive data is accessible subject to retrieval costs.

Charging Basis
Published charging rates are available, but these could be subject to negotiation. There is the possibility of negotiating an exchange agreement.
