Microelectronics Clean Room

Principal Functions
Assembly of miniature electronics circuits.

General Details
This facility is an air conditioned clean room suitable for prototype assembly and testing of delicate miniature electronic circuits. Silicon placements, gold wire bonders, an interconnection welder, pull testers and probe test machines are some of the equipment available to enable complex silicon die to be handled. These have all been used to produce tags such as the 300 kHz Micropinger, Transponding Pressure Tag and Data Storage Tag.

Specification
The room has dimensions of approximately 7m length × 3m width × 2.5m height., with an entrance lobby for ‘gowning up’. It has been classified as a Class 10,000 Clean Room, and has an antistatic floor surface to reduce the risk of damage to delicate and expensive die. The room also incorporates two nitrogen supplies, one of which feeds storage cupboards and the other some pieces of machinery.

Availability
The facility is available to other bodies, but it can only be operated by the Laboratory in-house experts.

Charging Basis
Charging rates are subject to negotiation.

Site Access
The site has ready access for vehicles.
