Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) (Established 1997)
Status An international, independent, charitable non-governmental organisation. Mission To work for sustainable marine fisheries by promoting responsible, environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable fisheries practices, while maintaining the bio-diversity, productivity and ecological processes of the marine environment. Activities The MSC key activities are:-

Briefing and Reporting Mechanisms The MSC produces an annual report detailing its activities over the previous year. The first such report will be issued shortly. The MSC also produces a quarterly newsletter and encourages discussion through its Internet web site http://www.msc.org Perspective The MSC role is to work with all members of the fishing sector world-wide to promote the responsible management of the worlds marine wild fisheries. The MSC has a Chairman and international main board, supported by a policy Advisory Board and national issue groups.
