Mission Statement

To provide high quality research, postgraduate training and teaching, which is aided by research in the marine sciences.

Short Historical Statement

The Department of Marine Sciences and Coastal Management was formed in 1992 in a reorganisation of University Departments. It incorporates the Centre for Tropical Coastal Management Studies and the Dove Marine Laboratory, which was established in 1897. It operates the purpose built research vessel RV Bernicia.
