Status
A non-profit making association under Dutch Law which currently involves 38 institutions in 19 European countries.
Mission
Through university collaboration in advanced training in the marine technology sector, it facilitates the development of initiatives designed to update and extend the knowledge and skills of postgraduate students and practising engineers. Its principal activities in achieving this are the planning and organisation of research, education and training, and information dissemination. WEGEMT has a long, well founded history of developing short, intensive, advanced training courses called Schools, providing advanced level teaching and trans-national collaboration on postgraduate education.
It currently manages research and training projects totalling over 1.8M ECU including the Thematic Network on Design for Safety involving 40 different European universities, companies and research institutes.

Briefing and Reporting Mechanisms
An eight man Executive Committee, which meets three times per year is nominated by an Annual Conference of all university Associates.
Any university with interests in marine technology can apply to become a WEGEMT Associate provided it can contribute at an advanced (postgraduate/doctoral) level. Universities are elected at the Annual Conference, usually held in September.
Perspective
There are currently ten UK university Associates, which equates to 30% of all Associates. No other European country has more than three Associates. The Secretariat which coordinates WEGEMT services is based in the UK at The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
WEGEMT publishes its School proceedings which are available from the Secretariat.
